Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Color mostly red with white belly and blue-violet scales. Snout yellow to orange. Orange dorsal fin with long whip-like extension. Faint blue lines on head, blue lines on tail fin.

Range and habitat
Western Pacific ocean, endemic to Indonesian waters, from Sumatra to Timor. Found near deep coastal slopes and sometimes shallow muddy waters near estuaries.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : This species has a very small range and occurs in areas where cyanide fishing has been reported. Also caught in big numbers for the trade, causing important local declines in populations.
