Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Females orange with red lines and yellow cheeks. Males have elongated triangle-shaped tail with oblique blue band and yellow mark. Body mottled orange covered with pink and violet lines.

Range and habitat
Western Pacific ocean, from Izu-Oshima in Japan to Taiwan and Philippines. Found around flat or gently-sloping bottoms with scattered rocky and coral reef patches.

Status : This species has a fairly small range but occurs at great depths, making it less likely to be vulnerable to habitat loss and capture for the trade. No threats known for now.
