Identification
Small wrasse with elongated body, reaching 10 cm in length. Face bright yellow with red bands. Upper flanks, dorsal fins and tail bright red. Lower flanks light pink. Pectoral and pelvic fins yellow. Anal fin yellow-orange with red edge.

Range and habitat
This species in only found in eastern Pacific Ocean and occurs around Hawaiian Islands and rarely near Johnston Atoll. Lives in seaward reefs, usually near drop-offs, from 5 to 186 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a very small range but most of it lies in protected areas. It remains locally abundant so far.
