Identification
Coloration mostly blue-green to dark violet-blue with yellowish eyes and yellow snout. Tail peduncle pink-red. Dorsal and anal fins black with pink-red area near base and tail. Yellow pectoral fins.

Range and habitat
Pacific Ocean, from Great Barrier Reef to Pitcairn islands group. Occurs around outer reef areas, rarely in sheltered lagoons, over patches of rubble, sand and coral.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : This species has a fairly large range and remains at least locally common. It has a high commercial value and is locally caught for trade. Monitoring of trade impact would be needed.
