Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach a length of 25 cm. Cylindrical body, fairly long face. Unmistakable. Coloration white to pinkish white with very large and wavy dark brown to brown band on flanks. Bright red band from forehead to tail. Tail bright yellow.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Australian coasts (from North Queensland) to Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island. Lives in fairly deep sandy bottom areas near rocky reefs, from 3 to 25 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species doesn’t have a big range but seems to remain common in most parts. International trade doesn’t represent a threat so far.
