Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species can reach 15 cm in length. Juvenile are white with dark edges on flank scales giving a “peppery aspect”. Upper flanks black with thin white line near top of flanks. Back brown. Adults similar but darker, with yellow-brown belly.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Taiwan and Philippines to Indonesia and north Australia. Lives in silty sand-rubble areas with corals, from 9 to 55 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species seems to be very common within its fairly large range. It isn’t targeted by fisheries and very rarely collected for the trade.
