Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Top side olive-green to bright green with dark purple to black mottling. Pink-red and blue cheek marks. Two purplish-black bands below pectoral fin base, purple bars on belly, black tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
Indo-west Pacific, from Red Sea and East Africa to Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia and Australia. Found around reef flats, reef margins and rocky shores, often in weedy areas.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread and common within its huge range. It is collected for trade but in relatively small numbers. No threats are known at this time.
