Identification
The species can reach a maximum length of 10.3 cm. Unmistakable. Long jaws. Pinkish-violet coloration with faint vertical white lines on flanks. White-edged black spot on tail. Upper back and head yellow with pink and black lines.

Range and habitat
The species occurs around the archipelagos of the western Pacific Island, from New Caledonia and Fiji to Pitcairn islands and Society Islands. Lives in coral reefs, near caves and drop-offs, from 20 to 60 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread but said not to be common. This could be due to its cryptic nature. Its populations’ trends are unknown.
