Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Elongated snout. Face pink with big yellowish eyes, white cheeks and chin. Upper half of flanks bright dark red, lower half white with broad red longitudinal band. Dorsal and tail fin edged yellow.

Range and habitat
Eastern Indian Ocean, only occurs around south-west and southern coasts of Australia. Found near offshore rocky reefs with algae cover.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a small range but is locally common to abundant. It is caught in small numbers, both for the trade and for food but this doesn’t seem to be a threat.
