Identification
The species can reach 76 cm long for a weight up to 4,5 kg. Caudal fin with strong indentation, strong spines on head. Fins orange, body with orange mottling and stripes on head over a grey-white background. Grey band on lateral line.

Range and habitat
This species is found in the eastern Pacific ocean, from Shelikof strait in Gulf of Alaska to Baja California (Mexico) around Cape Colnett. Mostly found in rocky reefs, from 90 to 838 m, rarely above.
