Identification
Adults can grow to 36 cm long for a weight of 2,8 kg. Large head with thick lips. Looks superficially like scorpionfishes. Coloration mostly mottled olive brown to dark grey with alternating clear and dark small saddles on back.

Range and habitat
This species is found in the western Pacific ocean, from Hokkaido (Japan), to Taiwan and the Philippines. Lives in inshore areas, over rocky bottoms.
