Identification
Large size, very big upturned mouth. Eyes on a prominent ridge, deep pit behind eyes and on cheeks. Skin very warty. Coloration from dull brown, to reddish on flanks, vermiculated fins.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from India to south China, Philippines and Vanuatu, south to north Australia. Found around coastal reefs and estuaries, on sandy and muddy bottoms, to 40 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range but isn’t abundant. It is locally caught for food and for trade but no real threats are known. Its range overlaps with protected marine areas.
