Identification
Adults can grow to 1,26 m in length, including 67 cm in disk length. Snout broad and rounded with ridge below eyes. Yellow-brown to olive-brown with irregular dark spots and blotches. White belly with posterior margins dark brown.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Korea, north and east China and south Russia to Japan. Lives in inshore waters on sandy and muddy bottoms, to 330 m deep in Japan.

Status : The species has gone through steep declines because of predator control programs in Japan and overfishing around Chinese coasts.
