Identification
Adults can grow to 4.20 m in length for a weight up to 346 kg. Large shark species with rounded but fairly elongated snout. Pectoral fins curved. Coloration dark blue-grey, white on belly. Fin tips are dusky, less so in adult specimens.

Range and habitat
This species occurs patchily in the subtropical and tropical coastal areas of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. Lives in coastal and offshore – but not oceanic – waters, down to 400 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has experienced very steep declines in parts of its range, because of overexploitation and habitat loss.
