Identification
The species can reach a total length of 1,32 m. Long snout, mouth below, closer to eyes than snout. Small ridges above eyes. Adults light brown with barely visible transversal bands edged with dark dots. Juveniles with more markings.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from India Andaman Islands to Philippines, south Japan and southwards to north Australia. Lives in inshore and coastal shallow coral reefs and seagrass beds, to 85 m.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is more and more threatened because of fishing pressure, as bycatch and direct target by unsustainable and unmanaged fisheries.
