Identification
The species will grow to 63 cm long. Flattened head with small mouth, deep tail peduncle, broad tail fin. Coloration silvery with more or less visible longitudinal lines. Black pectoral fins, dark dorsal fins, yellow to dirty yellow tail fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to Tuamoto Is., north to south Japan, south to New Caledonia and Great Barrier reef. Lives in shallow coastal areas, protected sandy shores, estuaries, to 5 m deep.

Status : The species has a huge range and is locally common. It is vulnerable to habitat loss and pollution and could be locally threatened.
