Identification
Adults can grow to 15 cm in length. Relatively short snout for a filefish with straight to slightly concave forehead. Coloration light grey to slightly silvery grey. Dark grey to brown horizontal lines, sometimes barely visible or broken.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Pacific Ocean area, from Kochi prefecture in Japan to East China sea and Philippines. Lives around deep muddy substrates, to 30 meters deep. Sometimes offshore.

Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed. The species remains poorly known and has a small range. Possibly vulnerable to overfishing.
