Identification
The species grows to 10 cm in length. Dark brown back and upper flanks, pinkish-cream head and bottom flanks. Red dots on brown back, light blue and red dots on lower flanks and cheeks. Blue stripes around eyes and near mouth.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from East Africa to South Africa and even south Atlantic, to Tuamoto, north to Taiwan, south to north Australia. Lives in inner reef flats and sheltered lagoons, to 15 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is locally abundant. It could be locally threatened by habitat loss. Trade levels need to be monitored.
