Identification
The species can grow to about 30 cm in length. Unmistakable coloration. Ground color bluish-green with numerous parallel orange wavy lines on flanks and around mouth. Cheeks patternless. Fins orange to yellow.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from Red Sea to South Africa, east to Marquesas Islands, north to South Japan, south to New Caledonia. Lives in coral-rich areas of deep lagoons and seaward coral reefs, to at least 50 m.

Status : The species could be declining locally because of habitat loss and overcollection for the trade.
