Identification
Coloration usually dark olive-grey to nearly black with rows of yellow-tinged dots on flanks, sometimes edged blue. Clear edges to fins. Blue line near eyes, over mouth and at base of fins.

Range and habitat
Eastern Pacific Ocean, from Baja California to Ecuador, Peru and north Chile. Found around reefs and sandy bottoms in shallow waters.

Status : The species has a large range and seems to be common at this time. It occurs in protected areas and no imminent threats have been identified.
