Identification
Violet tinge on face, grey belly separated by thin white line. Flanks pearly beige with thin horizontal rows of spots. Two curved lines near eye and pectoral fins, yellow to black. Blue top of eye.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to Marquesas islands and Hawaii, to south Japan and north Australia. Found around exposed algae reef flats as well as deep drop-offs after the surge zone.

Status : The species seems to be quite common within its large range. Occasionally collected for the trade, not yet bred under human care.
