Identification
Body length of 135 cm, tail length of 50 cm, weight of 20 kg. Stocky and large wild dog with black bushy tail. Long fur, globally rufous with white areas on snout, lips, breast, belly and legs. Unmistakable. Lighter subspecies, tail clearer.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found from south Russia to India, Bangladesh and north-west Myanmar. Species also occurs from east Russia to China, to Malaysia, Java and Sumatra. Lives in most types of forests, alpine steppe, woodlands, up to more than 3000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is globally declining and it is thought that less than 2500 mature individuals remain. Legally protected but vulnerable to habitat loss.
