Identification
Body length of 82 cm, tail length of 50 cm, weight of 6 kg. Limbs very short and feet fully webbed and clawed. Coloration dark brown to blackish brown with slightly clearer throat. Muzzle covered with hairs. Lips and snout creamy white.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South East Asia, in south Cambodia and Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and south Sumatra. Lives in coastal wetlands, large rivers, mountain streams and lakes.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is declining because of habitat loss throughout its range and relentless hunting and capture for the trade and for food.
