Identification
Body length of 45 cm, tail length of 28 cm, weight of 1.9 kg. Small pointy nose, round ears, bushy tail. Fur is light brown to gray-brown to black with white spotting all over flanks and back. White to clear gray belly. Spotless tail.

Range and habitat
The species was formerly present in Australia but now only occurs on Tasmania and Bruny Island. Lives in open woodlands and grasslands, often in foraging pastures close to forest.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has totally disappeared from Australia. Its remnant populations look safe but could be declining and need monitoring.
