Identification
Body length of 66 cm, tail length of 68.5 cm, weight of 10.5 kg. Elongated snout, long furry tail. Fur gray-brown to olive-brown with white belly and breast. Males have a white ring around eyes.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to the Island of New Guinea where it only occurs in the Huon Peninsula. Also introduced on nearby Umboi Island. Lives in montane tropical rainforests, from 1000 to 3000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species is worryingly declining because of hunting and conversion of land for agriculture. Flagship species for conservation programs.
