Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 27 cm, a tail length of 5 cm and a weight of 400 g. Very long and broad ears. Head yellowish with small black nose. Spines are black at their base with clear yellow to almost white tips. Subspecies with uniformly brown underside (white for other subspecies).

Range and habitat
Eastern Europe from Ukraine, south to Egypt and eastwards to Pakistan and Mongolia. Subspecies found from Turkestan and east Iran to western Pakistan. Lives in arid areas, mostly dry river beds, steppes and semi-deserts.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN

Status : As it is, the species is widespread and globally common around its range. The species may be splitted and needing reassessment in the future.
