Identification
Adults can grow to 42 cm for a weight of 1,7 kg. Fur globally grey to brown, often with faint clear mottling. Most extensive patagium (red-brown) known for a mammal. Face with long snout. Clear nose and eyering with white line under eyes.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Vietnam, south Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and nearby islands. Species also found on Sumatra, Java and Borneo. Lives in rainforests, plantations, gardens with large trees and good canopy cover.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range but is declining because of habitat loss and competition with more adaptable Callosciurus notatus. Monitoring needed.
