Identification
Adults can grow to around 70 cm in body length for a tail near 90 cm long and a weight of 10 kg. Back, outside of limbs, tail and head black. Belly, inside of limbs and breast yellowish to white. Small white patch on forehead and whiskers.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south America, in south Venezuela and north Brazil, also in south Colombia to North-east Peru. Lives in primary tropical forest, marshes and semi-deciduous forests.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is threatened by deforestation as it is strongly linked to primary forests. Overhunting to the point of local extirpation is also an issue.
