Identification
Body length of 61 cm for a weight of 6.9 kg. Male is completely black with conspicuous white eyebrow line (unbroken). Female has clear crown and white edge of face. Rest of fur is beige with much darker limbs and belly. Black face.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, in Bangladesh and north-east India, eastwards to north-west Myanmar. Isolated population in Xizang (Tibet). Lives in primary tropical and subtropical rainforest. Rarely in plantations, to 2700 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This species occurs in protected areas but suffers greatly from habitat loss and degradation, and to a lesser extent illegal hunting.
