Identification
The species can weigh up to 6.8 kg. Only one morph is known, with most of breast and belly dark brown to black, flanks and back golden-brown. Black face and crown with large ruffles of white hairs on cheeks, chin and eyebrows.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, and is endemic to the south-western quarter of Borneo island, in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan. Lives in monsoon forests, tropical evergreen and peat-swamp forests up to 1200 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This species is endangered by deforestation and forest burning for palm oil culture amongst others. Also captured for trade, locally in high numbers.
