Notes : No subspecies known.
Body length of 40 cm, tail length of 55 cm, weight of 2.2 kg. Black face, olive to rufous brown fur. Both sexes have rufous lower-cheek and neck patches. Males have black cap, female’s is olive-brown to grey.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Madagascar and only occurs in south-eastern parts of the Islands, from Mananara river to Tolagnaro. Lives in primary and secondary moist forests in lowlands and mountains.

Status : This species has a small range and is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, and illegal hunting which is a consequence of political unrest.
