Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 68 cm for a weight of 11 kg, males being heavier than females. Round face with flattened forehead, white throat and collar. Black limbs, grizzled flanks and back with rufous-brown lower back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern and southern Africa, from south Somalia and north Kenya to eastern South Africa, including Zanzibar island. Lives in forests, bushy woodlands and wooded savannas.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is widespread but many populations outside protected areas are declining. Some subspecies are now highly endangered.
