Identification
Body length of 330 cm, shoulder height of 220 cm, weight of 1000 kg. Males are much bigger than females and have a big dewlap and hump on back. Long curved horns. Coloration dark velvety brown to black. Legs are dirty white.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in India, south Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. The species is also found from Myanmar and Vietnam to Malaysia. Lives in all kinds of forests, also plantations and open woodlands, to 3000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is alarmingly declining because of loss of habitat to agriculture and poaching. Indian subspecies remains the safest in the wild for now.
