Identification
Body length of 140 cm, shoulder height of 90 cm, weight of 86 kg. Slimmer and darker than other subspecies. Body color rich dark brown with white areas on limbs, rump, belly and face.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to South Africa and only occurs in the coastal areas of the Western Cape Province. Lives in short grass plains (Fynbos) near coasts and streams, up to 200 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species has come close to total extinction and was saved by farmers. It’s now kept and bred in many protected areas and numbers are increasing.
