Identification
Body length of 160 cm, shoulder height of 112 cm, weight of 110 kg. Males bigger with long curved horns. Coat bright rufous-brown, white belly and eye-ring. This subspecies has black markings on legs, rising to sides of breast.

Range and habitat
The species occurs as isolated populations from Angola to Zambia. Subspecies found in south Zambia, in the Kafue flats floodplain. Lives in open grasslands and floodplains close to lakes and rivers.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species has declined because of hunting and destruction of its habitat by damming of the Kafue river and transformation for agriculture.
