Identification
Body length of 180 cm, shoulder height of 105 cm, weight of 120 kg. Males are bigger with curved and ridged horns. Fur is dark brown to black with dark markings around eyes and on shoulders. Female is beige-brown and hornless.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in a small part of north-eastern Africa, in South Sudan and western Ethiopia. Lives in marshes, swamps and flooded grasslands.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not listed
Status : This species has alarmingly declined due to hunting and habitat destruction by livestock and humane activities. It occurs in protected areas.
