Identification
Body length of 140 cm, shoulder height of 105 cm, weight of 52 kg. Very long neck, small head with large ears. Males have small grooved horns. Coloration is reddish-brown, more beige on flanks. White markings around eyes.

Range and habitat
The subspecies occurs in eastern Africa, from south Ethiopia and east-central Somalia to Kenya and North-east Tanzania. Lives in arid thorn-bush savannas, avoiding too open areas.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species has been globally declining in its range, especially in Kenya because of competition with livestock and hunting. Stable in protected areas.
