Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 145 cm, a shoulder height of 1 m and a weight up to 80 kg. Coloration rufous brown with white horizontal, vertical lines and spots on shoulder. Black and white markings on face and legs. Female lighter.

Range and habitat
The subspecies occurs in extreme western Africa, from south Mauritania and Senegal to extreme south-west Mali, south to western Liberia. Lives in forest edges, forest-savanna mosaic.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species likely needs reassessment but is known to be fairly common despite hunting.
