Identification
The species grows to 51 cm in body length. Short pencil-like legs, shorter nose than other mousedeers. Males have distinct elongated canines. Coloration is brown with yellow tinge and rows of yellowish-white spots on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in southern Asia and is endemic to Sri Lanka, being only found in the lower third (humid parts) of the island. Lives in secondary wet forests, rice fields, rubber plantations, home gardens.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is very adaptable and still thrives despite evidence of habitat loss and alteration. Its status needs closer monitoring.
