Identification
Body length of 120 cm, shoulder height of 70 cm, weight to 35 kg. Head with thick frontal ridges and very long antlers base. Large antlers. Coloration rich orange-brown with darker limbs and neck. Dark band on antlers’ base.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to Java. The species also occurs in most of Borneo, Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. Lives in all kinds of forests, including plantations and forest edges, to 1500 m.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range and remains relatively common but it is one of the most hunted mammals within its range, making it possibly threatened.
