Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan up to 8 cm. Ventral side dark orange and red with cream bands edged black. Upper side light orange-red with broad black edges and dots. Upper corner black with large white band. Female duller.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in Indochina, from Myanmar to Cambodia and Vietnam. Other subspecies occurs in the Indian subcontinent. Mostly found in forests and forest edges.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed but it appears to be common within its large range. It has recently colonized Malaysia and Singapore.
