Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan of about 8 cm. Wings have small spiny tips. Body is dark brown with spotted eyes. Upperside of wings is bright rufous-chestnut with faint spotting and dark edging. Underwing duller, shows dark wavy lines.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south-east Asia, from southern Thailand and peninsular Malaysia to Borneo and Sumatra. Subspecies found on continental Asia. Lives in lowland and highland rainforests, very rarely in open areas.

Status : The species has yet to be assessed. It seems to be quite safe but could be vulnerable on the long term to deforestation.
