Identification
Adults can grow to a wingspan of about 8.5 cm. The species is sexually dimorphic and polymorphic. Males are usually black to dark brown with two white bands and dots on underside. Upperside is black with two large bluish spots.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Indonesia to New Caledonia. Species found in Madagascar, southern Arabia, from India to Taiwan, south to New Zealand. Lives in woodlands, scrublands, grasslands, gardens in cities, plantations.

Status : The species hasn’t been assessed but it has a huge range and can occur in a wide variety of habitats, including cities. It is considered abundant.
