Identification
Wingspan up to 8.5 cm. Brown body, elongated head. Coloration dark brown on hindwings and lower half of forewings, becoming bright chocolate to orange-brown on upper half of forewings with a white band separating the two colors.

Range and habitat
Wide range from south-Texas (USA) throughout Central America and south Bolivia, Brazil and Peru. Subspecies found from Central America to Peru. Lives in all kinds of tropical habitats with decent humidity.

Status : Not assessed but known to be one of the commonest butterflies in Central America.
