Identification
Adults can grow to 8 cm in wingspan. Abdomen and thorax black with white underside. Wings are black with small turquoise spots and a row of blotches forming a boomerang-shaped pattern. Underside brown instead of black, red spots.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Malaysia to western Indonesia. The species is also found from South China and east India to central Indonesia and Philippines. Mostly found in humid and thick forests.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed. Its dependence on forests could make it endangered. This is especially true for insular subspecies.
