Identification
The species can grow to 8 cm in length with males much larger than females. Huge cephalothorax with projections above eyes. Mandibles have two teeth-like projections, abdomen is quite small. Coloration is uniform shiny black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to the island of Taiwan. It is found throughout the island in suitable habitat. Lives in lowland and submontane subtropical forests.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed by IUCN. Its endemic status makes it more vulnerable to habitat loss but the species is legally protected.
