Identification
Adults can reach up to 11 cm in length, males being nearly twice as big as females. Flattened and broad abdomen. Huge and broad mandibles with teeth-like protrusions. Female much smaller with small mandibles. Shiny black color.

Range and habitat
The species occurs from south China and Taiwan to Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. This subspecies is found in Malaysia and Sumatra. Lives in lowland and montane tropical and subtropical forests.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed by IUCN. It looks like the species remains safe so far although it could be locally threatened by habitat loss.
