Identification
Body length up to 12.7 cm, wingspan to 14 cm. One of the world’s biggest grasshopper species. Adults are mostly green with small amounts of yellow and red on abdomen and head. Juveniles black with yellow bands, red legs and head.

Range and habitat
The species is wide-ranging in Central and South America, occurring from Mexico to North Argentina. Found in many different habitats, from humid rainforests to arid grasslands, in both lowlands and montane areas.
