Identification
Adults can grow to a legspan of about 12 cm. The species has a relatively small body and very long dense hairs. Cephalothorax and legs black with metallic blue sheen, abdomen with metallic red sheen. Legs with pinkish tips.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central and South America, from Costa Rica and south Caribbean islands to Brazil and the Guianas. Arboreal species, found in parks, woodlands and open forests.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed. It is quite common near human settlements but could be locally vulnerable to overtrapping.
