Identification
Body length (without legs) is 1 cm for females, half less for males. Spherical abdomen usually entirely black to brownish black with a broad red band on back and belly. Long and slender legs.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Australia but has spread to New Caledonia and was introduced to Belgium. Mostly found around human settlement in hot and sheltered areas.
